Mum Broadcast Time (they are still pedalling )
Day 20: Tain to Wick, 70 miles
I’ve got the log-in details 😃
Hello! Just called Jonathan for today’s update, ‘can’t talk now, mum’, ‘we’re just having a short break and then still have about 40 minutes to get to our hotel’.
Going by Google Maps they had around 70 miles to cover on the A9 today. They both wanted to cover as much ground as possible today to have an easy day tomorrow (relatively speaking). And then they struck ‘hills like mountains, mum’ and the wind ‘stronger than Stavros (our dog) when he sees chicken’, which meant that they even had to ‘pedal really hard while going DOWN steep hills! ‘.
So while I fret and worry about him being out there on his bike in the darkness, I am also very happy for him - as he IS almost there, and the end is definitely in sight! His dad sent me this photo earlier in the day :-)
I was thinking about how much exercise Jonathan has been getting lately while walking the dog in the park this morning. The park is right next to the primary school Jonathan attended and I recalled the (many) sports days he participated in. As he’s only sent me one photo today, I am sure he won’t mind me sharing this one - from a sports day, so kind of thematically-related ;-)
Tata Steel
I was incredibly touched by a message from one of Jonathan’s supporters, Richard who off his own accord reached out to his union rep at Tata Steel asking him to spread the word about Jonathan to help with the fund raising. I am touched beyond words and all I can say is THANK YOU! Funnily enough, I drove through Port Talbot earlier this year, the size of the steel plant is impressive. I grew up in an industrial area myself (coal mines, steel works, the lot), so I know what I’m talking about :-).
Jonathan is trending
— in the County Scouts newsletter too:
Finally, the fundraising update
We are at £9,217 including Gift Aid!! Not far off the target but please keep spreading the message. Thank you!

This is fantastic Jonathan! About to cross the finish line. Well done. X
This is a comment from one of my friends:-
