Firth of Forth and Cows Behind the Wheel
Day 16: Tinto, S Lanarkshire > Scotlandwell, Perth & Kinross, 54.8 miles
Hello!
This sign made me laugh out loud today
I imagined cows driving at 100mph, laughing and moooo-ning passers-by. But I wasn’t laughing when we got to a cattle grid, it would have been too hard for me to ride on it so we walked our bikes over.
It seems that in Scotland, it’s not just cows that drive. Here’s a sheep that’s obviously done well for herself judging by her car.
Firth, fjord, estuary
We crossed the River Forth on one of the bridges spanning its firth. Do note: a firth is not an estuary! I was intrigued by the name and did some research, check out the difference in the link below. I quite often need to stop and look things up. On one hand it’s good as my general knowledge improves but it can be distracting too.
Can we make it across?
There was a bit of a consternation when we got to Queensferry. We were on the southbound side of the bridge. We crossed under the bridge to get to the northbound side but as soon as we took off I noticed that both the foot/cycling path and the road were all closed!
Thankfully, we realised that we could ride through the cones back onto the southbound side which had been split into a north- and a south- bound lane. Phew!
After crossing we had some late lunch and carried on cycling, mostly on the roads like the one below. The hills here are NOTHING compared to Cornwall.
I find the big, open spaces we were riding through quite soothing and relaxing. But after a while it gets a bit boring(?). So it’s a welcome change to come across a small town or village. Especially the one that houses a Scout’s centre!
We are staying in Scotlandwell, near Kinross today. Tomorrow’s destination is Pitlochry.
Thank you for your support and all the messages of support, Dad & I really appreciate them. ❤.
